Kai’s swim lessons

Kai has been doing swim lessons all summer and is getting very proficient for a three-year-old. He’d still sink like a rock if not closely watched and supported but he’s having a lot of fun.

It’s a month late, but here are some photos from Milo’s first birthday party. We celebrated it with his cousins in Michigan. His cousins (Addie and Brynn) and Kai helped make the cake, invitations and did all the decorating.

We had a great time at Wrightsville Beach today. Just a day trip with the boys. They both loved the water. Kai is still a little water baby and starts swim lessons at our pool tomorrow. I love the warm ocean. I’m used to the cold Pacific and just can’t believe how warm and lovely the water is. We will be making this trip often!

Milo is also on the verge of walking. Here’s some recent video of Milo becoming very mobile.

No explanation necessary

Kai saw a reference for Mother’s Day this past week and independently thought it would be a great idea to have a Mommy Celebration. He came up with the idea and the plans all on his own. He first thought was to make me a breakfast of pancakes with strawberries and eggs on top (which is huge since he hates eggs). He then thought I might enjoy a cake with strawberries, whipped cream, pickles and tomatoes (once again I am the only one who like pickles and tomatoes so it was a nice thought). He also thought it would be nice to get me flowers and to get me a pool but he said the pool would be for all of us, not just for mommy.

He planned all week and then went to Target with Young on Saturday and this is what I got for Mommy Celebration day. He picked everything himself.

  • Waking me up in the morning
  • Breakfast of Funfetti cake with frosting and sprinkles in the shape of a train
  • A number 5 candle on my cake (5 is his favorite number)
  • Singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” before I get to blow out my candle
  • Balloon animals that can also be make into rocket balloons
  • Roses (red is his favorite color)
  • A couple drawings he made that included a picture of a heart because “Mommy loves me”
  • The drawings were wrapped and hidden under a tree
  • A card with pictures and his named spelled out by himself for the first time

What is cool is that he didn’t realize it was Mother’s Day, he came up with it all on his own because he thought we should have a celebration for Mommy. He’s already planning on having a celebration for Daddy and Milo and wants to have a Kai celebration also. It was also fun because he mixed up elements of birthdays, Christmas and Easter.

Milo loves cars! He can play with them forever and gets very excited to see them. He just crawls around the house pushing his cars and smiling. Here he is with a new little car I got him.

That is Kai talking nonstop in the background. He pretty much talks nonstop from morning until night with any thought that pops into his head.

It’s been almost a year since we found Black-White and Grey behind the AC unit. They were about four weeks old then, so they have just celebrated their first birthday. They are the best cats ever! Here they are today and also a year ago as cute kittens.

When our neighbor’s son, Erik, started mowing the lawn yesterday, Kai insisted on getting out his lawn mower. I’d like to think Kai is bright, but he has yet to realize his lawn mower doesn’t really mow (or mulch). He is much more concerned about the lack of mulching. I did almost get him on video saying that he will mow the lawn when he is older, but I think he knew I would hold that against him in the future.

Also, check out his cool triceratops sunglasses! With matching boots!

We took a nice little walk the other night with Kai and Milo. Kai can peddle his tricycle all by himself (yeah!) and Milo loved the wagon ride. The cats joined us also.

We went to a local park with our neighbors to play and feed the geese. They had turtles and fish and many baby geese to feed also. Kai and Milo had fun, though Milo enjoyed eating the bread the most. It was fun to feed the geese as we only chase them out of our yard at home, including the 17 baby geese that come every day through the yard. They are cute but leave quite a mess.

Our neighbor Rusty (Mr. Rusty to Kai) let Kai reel in a fish from our lake. Kai is a bit scared but really enjoyed it. Mr. Rusty is his hero now. Kai hasn’t had much success catching a fish with his Cars Lightening McQueen fishing pole that has a rubber tire instead of a hook. Luckily, he just thinks the fish aren’t biting and that it has nothing to do with the rubber tire.
